Heroic Knights and Dragon-Slaying Saints

One of the most enduring myths involving dragons is that of the valiant knights who faced these fearsome creatures in battle. St. George, the legendary knight, is perhaps the most iconic dragon slayer in Western mythology. The tale of St. George and the Dragon dates back to the Middle Ages and recounts the heroic act of George rescuing a princess by defeating a menacing dragon. The story symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, courage over fear, and righteousness over malevolence.

Similarly, St. Michael, the archangel, is often depicted as a dragon slayer in Christian art and literature. These tales not only entertained medieval audiences but also served as allegories, imparting moral lessons about bravery, faith, and the victory of virtue.
